(ENTARTETE MUSIK.) Ziegler, Hans Severus. Entartete Musik.
(ENTARTETE MUSIK.) Ziegler, Hans Severus. Entartete Musik. Illustrated with photographic plates and reproductions. 8vo, original pictorial stapled wrappers, near fine. Second edition. Duesseldorf: Voelkischer, (1939)
- Notes: scarce printing of the exhibition book for the famous "degenerate art" exhibition. Two years after the Entartete Kunst exhibition in Berlin, the Nazi party continued their crusade to rid their culture of Judaism and their belief in its corruption of the arts. Famous works by Mendelssohn, Mahler, and Schoenberg were used as examples of unacceptable music. The cover depicts a crude exaggeration of the original poster for Ernst Krenek''s opera Jonny spielt auf. This grotesque figure became the Nazi symbol for all they considered "degenerate" in the arts.
