(ENTERTAINERS.) BOGART, HUMPHREY. 1941 Algerian 5-franc banknote Signed,

SHORT SNORTER SIGNED BY BOGART AND WIFE (ENTERTAINERS.) BOGART, HUMPHREY. 1941 Algerian 5-franc banknote Signed, diagonally at lower left. Additionally signed by his wife, Mayo Methot Bogart, diagonally at upper left. 3½x5 inches; minor scattered soiling, folds. (SFC) [North Africa, 1943]

Beginning in November of 1943, Humphrey Bogart and his wife, actress Mayo Methot, toured Africa and Italy with the USO, entertaining the Allied troops.
A "short snorter" is a banknote, or a strip of them joined together end-to-end, on which signatures are collected. The tradition began in the 1920s when some pilots began commemorating a meeting by signing each other's banknotes. If two such pilots met again, one of them might be challenged to produce the signed note; if he could not, he would be obligated to buy a drink--not a tall drink, but rather a "short snort," as too much alcohol is deadly for a pilot.
