  • Notes: Clayton "Peg Leg" Bates (1907-1991) was a popular dancer and vaudeville performer in the 1930s and 1940s despite the loss of one leg in childhood. He then became the first African-American resort owner in the Catskills "Borscht Belt" circuit.
