  • Provenance:
Eudora Welty gifted this portfolio to her friend Robert MacNeil in 1992

Robert MacNeil was a Canadian-American journalist, writer, and television news anchor. He partnered with Jim Lehrer to create the landmark public television news program "The MacNeil/Lehrer Report," later expanded as "The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour." This expanded news programming was the nation's first full hour of evening news.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History caption reads: "The guinea pig / Jackson / 1930s." View of woman holding guinea pigs. When Welty visited the fortune teller and had her fortune told, guinea pigs were running all over the floor. The daughter finally caught them by using celery as a lure.
