EX-STREETER LIBRARY
(CATTLE.) Wyoming Stock Growers Association. Group of 4 maverick books: Spring roundup 1885 district 17, Spring roundup 1885 district 20 and Spring roundup 1886 district 1 and Spring roundup 1887 district 14. Each containing printed Instructions to Foremen, followed by partly-printed forms accomplished in manuscript listing the maverick cattle, their purchasers and brands. 8vo, original cloth wallets, a bit worn; Thomas Streeter's booklabel in each. Streeter Sale IV:2374. [Cheyenne, 1885-87]
- Notes: The Wyoming Stock Growers Association was a consortium of the larger cattle owners. Since most cattle grazed freely on non-fenced in land, mavericks (unmarked strays) were sold at auction to benefit the Association. Non-Association members who branded mavericks were deemed rustlers and were often hung.
