EXCEPTIONAL COLLECTION OF CIVIL RIGHTS MATERIAL (CIVIL RIGHTS.)

The Thelma McDaniel Civil Rights Collection. Large and extraordinary collection of approximately 750 items covering the NAACP, segregation, racism, Jim Crow, lynching, KKK, Black Panthers, police brutality, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., March on Washington, sit-ins, Montgomery and other boycotts, etc. Archive is comprised of handbills, large and small posters, newspapers, photographs, broadsides, leaflets, bumper stickers, and other ephemera. Condition is generally very good. Vp, 1940s-70s Thelma McDaniel, an ordinary African-American woman amassed this extraordinary collection over many years as a participant and eventual beneficiary of the civil rights struggle. While her name is not associated with any specific event, she was one of thousands who took part in the long and still unresolved struggle for equality. As a Philadelphian, there is much here regarding the movement in Philadelphia, but the material comes from virtually every part of the United States. Since a great many of the pieces included here were intended for the moment and the event, the vast majority were discarded after the fact or lost over the years. It is hard to imagine another private collection to rival this one. this important collection must be seen.
