American Negro Exposition 1863-1940 [cover title]. Profusion of portraits and illustrations. Small 4to, original brightly colored wrappers. (Chicago, 1940) The Official Program and Guide Book for the exposition. The expo was an important event which coincided with both the Democratic National Convention and the Colored Democratic Convention held in Chicago. The cover of the program was designed by Robert Pious. The expo itself celebrated the accomplishments of Negroes in America and honored such heroes as Joe Louis, Matthew Henson, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Colonel Charles A. Young, among others, in the "Hall of Fame.".
