EXQUISITE PAIR OF EARLY DOLLS

(DOLLS.) Pair of handmade early African-American cloth dolls, a boy and a girl, each 14 inches tall, the boy dressed in striped pantaloons with a brown velveteen shirt with 4 early mother-of-peral buttons and a wide-brimmed hat; the girl in a patterned dress, brown velveteen blouse, and a bandanna tied around her full head of hair; both with life-like glass eyes; few small worm holes, girl's dress a bit tattered. Np, circa 1890-1900

  • Notes: This wonderful pair of handmade dolls was obviously made by the same person and appear to be a boyfriend and a girlfriend, both smiling and with dimpled cheeks. When placed side-by-side, their eyes are cast at one another.
