Fragmenta Regalia; or, Observations on the Late Queen Elizabeth, Her Times and Favourites. 4to, mid-later 19th-century brown morocco gilt-tooled to panel design by pawson & nicholson of Philadelphia, covers decorated with double-fillet frame filled with repeating ornamental tools alternating with gothic motif in black and ornamental tooling, and onlaid red morocco rosettes in corners, spine in 6 compartments, lettered in 2 with ornamental tooling and onlaid red morocco disks in the rest. - Notes: Third edition of a work first published the preceding year, handsomely bound by "Philadelphia's foremost binders in the second half of the nineteenth century" (Spawn, Bookbinding in America, page 96), and extra-illustrated with 19 19th-century engraved portraits of Elizabeth, members of her court, and other notables discussed by Naunton.
