Illustrated throughout with reproductions of political cartoons from Punch. This copy lavishly extra-illustrated by the insertion of 58 original pencil drawings and 10 tracings done for punch by sir john tenniel. 4to, full crimson crushed morocco, heavily gilt, by Riviere; watered silk doublures and endpapers; all edges gilt; very light flaking to the outer front joint of Volume One, minor scattered foxing in Volume Two, else a fine clean set with all original materials in excellent condition. London: Bradbury, Agnew & Co., (circa 1896-98)
- Notes: Tenniel joined the staff of Punch as joint cartoonist with John Leech in 1850, and he remained at Punch until he retired in 1901. Although perhaps better known today as the original illustrator of Lewis Carroll's Alice''s Adventures in Wonderland, Tenniel was the foremost political illustrator of his day. He was knighted on the recommendation of Gladstone in 1893.
