Woodcut Aldine device on last page. 149 (of 150) leaves; lacks a4. 4to, 265x175 mm, 17th-century gilt-panelled red morocco, spine badly worn, ends chipped, joints cracked, cords intact; early marginalia imperfectly washed out of a few leaves, title and last page soiled, blank lower margin of A3 restored, wormhole in blank lower inner corner of approximately 20 leaves in middle of volume. - Notes: first aldine edition, comprising Aesop and Gabrias in Greek with Latin translation by Aldus (with the text of Gabrias in both languages given twice), and the Greek text only of Phurnutus, Palaephatus, Heracles Ponticus, the Hieroglyphica of Horapollo (see lot 147) in the editio princeps, the proverbs of Tarrhaeus and Didymus, and the Apologus Aesopi de Cassita apud Gellium.
