Springland Cot, PA, 1800
- Notes: first edition. Birch's views of Philadelphia is considered the first American color plate book and is of significant rarity with only a handful of complete sets extant. Although this set is in rather poor condition, it appears that the plates were trimmed and mounted at an early (if not contemporary) date, with the black borders intended to give the prints a framed appearance. This copy with the second state of the "High Street, from the Country Market-place" plate, showing Washington's funeral procession. Howes B459 "dd"; Reese, American Color Plate Books 1; Snyder, City of Independence, pages 224-248; Deak 228.
