Goldman (1869-1940) American anarchist, publisher of "Mother Earth," imprisoned many times for inciting riots, advocating birth control and obstructing the draft. Abbott, to whom the book is presented, was the President of the Free Speech League and was a close associate and proponent of Goldman. Indeed, Goldman thanks him for his help and friendship in the opening acknowledgments of this book.
