Fitzgerald was in desperate financial condition while trying to make it as a Hollywood screenwriter in the late 1930s and `40s. Gingrich proved his salvation by agreeing to publish any story sent to him, albeit for a meager fee. Despite its print run of 8,000, a scarce title Signed.
