391/4x25 inches. Courbet, Paris. Condition A. For some inexplicable reason Cassandre never felt as comfortable with planes as he did with ships and trains. He never found a revolutionary graphic way to provided the Machine Age with an enduring image of a flying machine of any type. This is not to say that the three airplane posters he designed ( Aero Club de Bourgogne, Air Orient, and this one) are not good, they are simply classic rather than iconic. Here, with a painterly treatment, Cassandre uses pastel tones to depict an airplane amid the clouds. Mouron / Cassandre 95, p. 63, Reina Sophia p. 169.
