FLECHE D'ARGENT. 1929.
39 1/4x25 inches. Courbet, Paris.
Condition A.
For some inexplicable reason Cassandre never felt as comfortable with planes as he did with ships and trains. He never found a revolutionary graphic way to provided the Machine Age with an enduring image of a flying machine of any type. This is not to say that the three airplane posters he designed (Aero Club de Bourgogne, Air Orient, and this one) are not good, they are simply classic rather than iconic. Here, with a painterly treatment, Cassandre uses pastel tones to depict an airplane amid the clouds. Mouron / Cassandre 95, p. 63, Reina Sophia p. 169.
