Small 8vo, early gilt calf on paper boards, rubbed, backstrip varnished, slight cracking near backstrip; scattered annotations throughout, lacks front free endpaper, includes erratum page. • Notes: first latin edition. Benzoni was a very early Italian traveler in Spanish America; this work was first published in 1565. This edition is perhaps most notable for an appendix which recounts the Spanish execution of Huguenot settlers in Florida in 1565. This translation of Nicolas le Challeux''s "Discours de l''Histoire de la Floride" appears here under the title "De Gallorum Expeditione in Floridam." European Americana 578/3; Field Indian Bibliography 119; Medina BHA 250; Palau 27626; Sabin 4792.
