FLOWN Apollo 11 LM Lunar Surface Checklist. A single sheet approximately 5.5x8 inches, being the very first pages, SUR-1 and SUR-2, from the checklist. NASA/MSC, 12 July 1969

  • Notes: Just after the crew landed on the Moon, important procedures had to be carried out to secure the LM and be ready for an emergency abort if required. SUR-1 lists the required steps to secure the LM for a 1 REV "STAY" (one CSM orbit), beginning 8 minutes after touchdown. The last step on SUR-1 is for the crew to remove their space suit helmets and gloves. On this side, Aldrin entered five values of "+37127, -70605, -00033, +00006, and -00037" plus made a check tick while in the LM on the Moon. The first two values are for antenna steering and the last three are coefficients for the onboard gyroscopes.
these numbers represent some of the first written information recorded by man while on the surface of another world.

SUR-2 has computer program P57 values and procedures for REFSMMAT (Reference Stable Member Matrix) and Gravity Measurement which were done some 20 minutes after landing.
SUR-1 is inscribed and signed by Aldrin with: "Flown to the lunar surface on Apollo XI, Buzz Aldrin" and he has also signed "Buzz Aldrin" on SUR-2. With a Typed Letter Signed by Aldrin.
