FLOWN Apollo 8 Cloth Patch. Ttriangular crew patch showing the earth and Moon surrounded by a figure "8," representing the flight path of the mission. Approximately 4 inches. Mounted on a Typed Letter Signed by Gordon Cooper. Displayed in an 8x10 inch metal frame. 1968

  • Notes: The patch was carried on the Apollo 8 flight (the first time that man travelled to the Moon), and made 10 lunar orbits. The Typed Letter Signed reads in part: "This mission was a bold step. It was just the second manned Apollo flight and used the big Saturn V to take three men to the moon. The Saturn had only flown twice before, and not that well on its second launch."
