FLOWN Beta Emblem. An approximately 4x4 inch square Apollo 11 crew emblem mounted on a 10x12 inch multi-colored certificate which reads: "This Beta emblem traveled to the Moon with Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing. Apollo 11, July 16-24, 1969. Armstrong Collins Aldrin." NASA/MSC, nd

  • Notes: The crew emblem is perhaps the most meaningful mission related item to carry on a space flight. It represents the planning and training that the crew undertook to make the mission a success. This crew decided not to have their names added to the emblem to symbolize the dedication of the thousands of workers, a national effort, and dream of mankind to land on the surface of the Moon. The emblem is directly from an Apollo flight crew member, Buzz Aldrin, who assisted in the overall design. The emblem is inscribed and signed by Aldrin with: "Flown on Apollo XI, Buzz Aldrin."
