FLOWN Gemini 4 PPK. Astronaut Edward White's Personal Preference Kit (PPK) used to carry various personal and family mementos. Approximately 6x7 inches and constructed of gray nylon rip-stop with a draw string top closure. Displayed on an approximately 8x6 inch stand with a plaque that reads: "Personal Preference Kit, Carried By Edward H. White II on the Gemini 4 mission. June 3-7 1965 and on America's First EVA June 3 1965." With age stains. NASA/MSC, 1965

  • Notes: In early 1965, Russian Aleksei Leonov has just completed the world's first spacewalk. NASA then made plans to move up their first EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity) to Gemini 4. Ed White's PPK, already planned to be carried in one of his space suit leg pockets, logged an historic first, becoming the first PPK to be carried "outside" a spacecraft during his 20 minute spacewalk. The bag is inscribed "Ed White / 78 Silver" on one side referring to 78 silver mission medallions it contained during the flight.
