(FOOD AND DRINK.) FISHER, MRS. ABBY. What Mrs. Fisher Knows About Old Southern Cooking. 72 pages. Small 8vo, original brick red cloth with the title decoratively stamped in gilt on the upper cover; some light wear; a few stains in the text, no doubt obtained while cooking; astrological bookplate of book collector Marcus Crahan. San Francisco: Women''s Cooperative, 1881

  • Notes: first edition of the second cook book written by an African American. Mrs. Abby Fisher made her fortune as a maker and purveyor of pickles and pickle products. She apparently created a few successful specialties and was a caterer as well in old San Francisco.
