In 1923, he emigrated to the United States along with his wife and child. A lifelong stamp enthusiast, he parlayed his interest into a business, opening the F. R. Ferryman Stamp Business, which was located across from the New York Public Library. Continuing on as a painter and printmaker for the rest of his life, he died in New York in 1983, at the age of 90.
