FRANCIS SEYMOUR HADEN (after J. M. W. Turner)
Calais Pier.

Etching and drypoint, 1874. 597x838 mm; 23 1/2x33 inches, wide margins. Eighth state (of 12), with the etched inscription "Published for and by F. S. Haden 62 Sloane Street London 1 May 187," upper left. With the artist's signature and inscription adhered on two separate sheets, lower margin. A superb, well-inked impression of this scarce etching.

Haden's largest and most technically complex etching. The artist had a new intaglio printing press specially made to accomodate the scale of this oversize etching plate. Schneiderman 141.
