FRANCISCO TAMAGNO (1851 - ?) CYCLES TERROT. 1898.

61x43 1/2 inches. P. Vercasson, Paris.
Condition A-: vertical and horizontal folds; expert overpainting in margins.
Very little biographical information about Tamagno can be found. It is well documented that he was one of the artists under contract with the printer Camis, who claimed to have the largest printing presses in the world, and certainly retained major companies as clients. Throughout his career Tamagno designed many different posters for Terrot, a company which, from very early on, seemed to have a clear advertising concept: speed. For each of his posters for the company, Tamagno illustrates a humorous story of a woman outpacing other forms of transportation, such as bicycles, cars and trains. In all instances she is almost arrogantly mocking those behind her, with no fear that they can catch her as she is on a superior machine. As with all of Tamagno's images, this one is well balanced, well designed and well printed. DFP-II 808.
