FRANK HAZENPLUG THE CHAP BOOK. May, 1896.
21 1/4x14 inches.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds; minor tears and losses at edges. Paper.
While some have likened his work to Bradley's, Scotson Clark, an embittered poster artist and major Bradley detractor turned poster critic, writing at the turn-of-the-century, referred to Hazenplug's style as "distinctly good" (The Poster, November, 1900). This poster seems to be far more influenced by the art of Toulouse-Lautrec than Will Bradley. Kiehl 100, not in DFP I, Reims 1234, Word & Image p. 42, Margolin p. 100, Keay p. 28.
