Signed by FDR and his wife, in frame engraved with inscription to "Missy" LeHand

Franklin D. Roosevelt; and Eleanor

Photograph Signed by both,

group portrait showing FDR seated at center, his personal assistant Marguerite LeHand sitting on the floor at his feet, Eleanor sitting on the floor at the far left, and over 30 Democratic Party workers and others either seated in a row beside FDR, sitting on the floor in a row beside Eleanor, or standing in rows behind them [likely at a fund raising event in Albany, NY, 1932]. Signed in the blank lower margin. 8x10 inches; mounted to larger board, slight even toning overall, faint soiling along lower edge; in pewter frame bearing inscription, "M[arguerite] A[lice] L[eHand] From F.D.R. / Feb. 5th 1932."

Np, circa 1932.

  • Notes: On July 2, 1932, Roosevelt accepted the nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention, but preparations for a possible run began earlier in the year, with the Democratic Party presidential primaries having begun in early March.

This photograph was a gift to Marguerite "Missy" LeHand (1896-1944), who was not only a personal assistant to FDR, but a confidant and, as some have opined, possibly also his mistress.
