GALLATIN, ALBERT. Letter from the Secretary of the Treasury... on the Subject of American Manufactures. 62 pages, including 5 folding tables included in the pagination. 8vo, disbound; minor foxing, repaired tear to title. Washington, 1810
- Notes: first edition of the second american report on manufactures, one of 1000 copies printed for the use of the House of Representatives. In many respects, Hamilton's famous 1791 report on manufactures and Gallatin's reach the same pro-manufacturing conclusions. See Douglas A. Irwin's "The Aftermath of Hamilton's Report on Manufactures" (The Journal of Economic History, Vol. 64, No. 3). The second American edition of Hamilton's report was issued by the House to accompany this new report. OCLC locates a single copy of a Boston printing from the same year, but no copies of this First Edition. Shaw & Shoemaker 21698 (locating 5 copies).
