(GAMES AND AMUSEMENTS.) [Die Zuckerente].

RARE 18TH CENTURY " PEEP SHOW " (GAMES AND AMUSEMENTS.) [Die Zuckerente]. An 18th-century Peep-show, consisting of five copper-engraved and hand-colored sheets of cardboard, depicting a group of slaves at work on a sugar plantation (probably Saint Domingue), a small repair to one tiny figure. [Augsburg, 1750]

  • Notes: The peep show is made of five different layers which, when one is set over the other produces a three dimensional tableau. These peep-shows were very popular in the 18th and 19th century. Due to their very delicate construction, they are quite uncommon.
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
