GEORGE BELLOWS Business-Men's Bath.

GEORGE BELLOWS
Business-Men's Bath.

Lithograph on thin, cream wove paper, 1923. 302x432 mm; 11 7/8x17 inches, full margins. Edition of 43. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin, and signed and inscribed "imp" by the printer, Bolton Brown, in pencil, lower left. A superb, warm impression of this scarce lithograph.

Bellows made two other lithographs on similar themes in 1916 and 1917, Business-Men's Class and The Shower-Bath respectively (Mason 20 and 45). All hearken back to scenes from his stay at the YMCA when he first arrived in New York in 1904, after dropping out of Ohio State at the end of his senior year to pursue a career as an artist. Mason 145.
