GEORGE BELLOWS The Life Class, Second Stone.

GEORGE BELLOWS
The Life Class, Second Stone.

Lithograph on thin cream wove paper, 1919. 318x422 mm; 12 1/2x16 5/8 inches, irregular (full) margins. Annotated in ink by Bellows on an attached sheet on the verso. Signed by the printer, Bolton Brown, in pencil, lower margin.

Mason knew of only one impression of this lithograph, in the Wiggin Collection, Boston Public Library. The current work is perhaps only the second known extant impression. Bellows used the same theme in a better-known lithograph (Mason 43) as well as an etching (see Mason, page 18).

We have not found another impression at auction in the past 20 years. Mason 8.
