GEORGE PLATT LYNES (1907-1955) Nicholas Magallanes and Francisco Moncion in Balanchine's Orpheus II.

GEORGE PLATT LYNES (1907-1955)
Nicholas Magallanes and Francisco Moncion in Balanchine's Orpheus II. Silver contact print, the image measuring 9x7¼ inches (22.9x18.4 cm.), with Lynes' 145 East 52 Street stamp and the title and date in pencil in an unknown hand, on verso. 1948

  • Condition: George Platt Lynes' elegant photograph of Nicholas Magallanes and Francisco Moncion in Balanchine's Orpheus II is in very good condition. The tones are rich and contrasty, with beautifully rendered light falling on the figures.

There are no margins, and the extreme edges of the print evidence tiny scattered superficial chips, most of which are not at all immediately apparent or distracting. There is a very soft and nearly imperceptible handling mark in the lower left quadrant and a very shallow and faint impression near the upper right edge. The lower right corner also shows a small diagonal crease. These slight imperfections are not at all immediately apparent or distracting.

Print verso shows a very faint and somewhat even staining, but this does not at all impact the image. The print is hinged to the undermat from verso, and there are slight surface scuffs here from the removal of a prior hinge.
