GEORGE SHERINGHAM (1884-1937) UP RIVER. 1926.
39 3/4x25 inches. Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Ltd., London.
Condition A: vertical and horizontal folds.
Primarily regarded as an illustrator and especially known for his images of fish, Sheringham also designed a few posters for the London Transport Company. Here, extolling people to travel up the Thames (the "joy stream of London") he depicts a languid, though stylish, bucolic summer scene of people picnicking along the river's bank.
