GEORGES DEMENY (1850-1917) Chronophotograph of a man jumping.

GEORGES DEMENY (1850-1917)
Chronophotograph of a man jumping. Printing-out paper (silver chloride) print, 2 1/4x3 3/4 inches (5.7x9.5 cm.), with a caption, in ink, in French, and a number, in blue grease pencil, on verso. Circa 1895

  • Notes: The photograph was acquired from Alain Paviot, Paris, France.

Demeny worked with Etienne-Jules Marey (1831-1904), who is best-known as a photographic pioneer of motion studies. In this marvelous study, in which the subject is posed on a stage (with curtains on either side), multiple exposures were produced on a single photographic negative in quick succession.
