GEORGES MEUNIER (1873-1922)

JOB. 1894. Chaix, Paris.
98x343/4 inches.

  • Notes: When Jules Cheret took over the printing house Chaix, he had many young artists working for him, many of whom imitated his style. Of these, Georges Meunier was the best. In this poster he clearly follows in the steps of the master, illustrating a charming, intimate scene in which an elegant young woman is smoking, while the black cat at her feet seems extremely curious - and probably impatient to play with the many packs of Job rolling paper on the floor. Meunier's design in this poster is one of the best utilizing the elongated format that was current in Paris in the mid 1890s. Maitres pl. 167, DFP II 579.
  • Condition: Condition B+: repaired tears and creases in margins and along vertical and horizontal folds. Two sheets.
