The Deposition.

Pen and brown ink and wash on cream laid paper. 170x110 mm; 6 3/4x4 1/4 inches. Ex-collection Prosper Henry Lankrink (Lugt 2090, lower right recto on the mount).

Cavedone was associated with the Carracci and their Academy in the early 1600s; in 1619 he became Caposindaco of the Accademia degli Incamminati, with sojourns to Rome (1609) and Venice (1612-13). The current work is a study for his fresco of the same-title in the cloister of San Michele.
