GILLIAM VAN DER GOUWEN (AFTER JACOB MATHAM) Een Walrisch . . . gestrandt op de Hollandste zee-kust.

GILLIAM VAN DER GOUWEN (AFTER JACOB MATHAM)
Een Walrisch . . . gestrandt op de Hollandste zee-kust.

Engraving, circa 1715. 277x340 mm; 11x13 1/2 inches, small margins. A very good impression with strong contrasts.

Both this etching by van der Gouwen (1657-1720) and the earlier version by Matham (1571-1631), see Hollstein 317, derive from a drawing by Matham's step-father Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617).
