Folio, 352x230 mm, contemporary panelled calf, rebacked, cover corners restored, endpapers renewed; occasional toning or browning, diagonal creases and short repaired clean tear in lower inner corner of frontispiece, light soiling on general title, small rust hole in plate facing page 55 in first part and through a few text leaves elsewhere causing minor text loss, lower portion of plate facing page 154 in second part reinforced on verso, repaired clean tear in last index leaf. From the libraries of the British chemists Charles Hatchett (1765-1847), with his stamp on title verso, and his son-in-law William Thomas Brande (1788-1866), with his signature on recto; armorial bookplate of the British metallurgist Hugh Lee Pattinson (1796-1858) on front pastedown.
