Orbis Coelestis Typus - [set of hand-colored engraved segments to construct an enormous celestial globe]. 24 conical gores and 2 circular polar calottes re-struck from the original copper plates at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France on large sheets of "BFK Rives" watermarked wove paper. Each sheet with uncut deckle edges and approximately 29½x21 inches, excepting plates 1 to 4 of the lower register which have been trimmed to the platemark; attractively hand-colored in full; age toning, surface soiling, and small edge tears. Paris, 1693 [but late-nineteenth or early-twentieth century]
