GORDON PARKS (1912-2006) Accordéoniste. Circa 1962–63.

GORDON PARKS (1912-2006)
Accordéoniste. Circa 1962–63.
Silver print, the image measuring 13 3/8x10½ inches (34x26.7 cm.), with Parks' LIFE PHOTO stamp and LIFE copyright stamp on verso.

  • Condition: Gordon Parks' vintage photograph "Accordéoniste", circa 1962-63, is overall in very good condition. The tones of the print are rich and varied, with strong dark charcoal tones, bright highlights and fine detail.

Under close examination, the surface evidences a couple exceedingly soft handling marks in strong, raking light. Two are located in the lower left quadrant (one close to the far-left corner of the suitcase and one on the left of the cigarette butt), and one in the upper left quadrant in the sitter's neck. Here, we can also notice an exceedingly faint vertical impression as well as a few minuscule accretions. Two dimples are also noticeable in the coat.

All these slight imperfections remain unobtrusive and superficial, and not at all apparent when viewing the work in typical conditions.

The print has no margins, and upon extremely close inspection, minuscule and superficial chips may be found at the extreme edges of the work, and more specifically a few chips with losses at the tip of the corners, but even here it is quite unobtrusive and minor.

The verso is clean, with Parks' LIFE PHOTO stamp and LIFE copyright stamp on verso.
