First edition, two folio volumes, engraved frontispiece, title, and dedication, first volume illustrated with 100 plates of engraved gems from the collection of British Consul at Venice Joseph Smith (1682-1770); second volume illustrated with engraved vignettes and two full page plates of larger ancient sculptures; the set bound in uniform contemporary tan calf, bumped and rubbed, joints cracked; ex libris Sir Robert Johnson-Eden, 5th Baronet (1744-1844), with his engraved armorial bookplate in the first volume, 13 1/2 x 9 1/4 in.
