Griffith "Grif" Harold Teller

1899-1993

Washington The City Beautiful / Pennsylvania Railroad. 1935.

Condition A-: overpainting in margins, around lower text and along some minor creases and abrasions in image.

Teller almost exclusively painted images for the Pennsylvania Railroad to use on their calendars, which he did from from 1928 to 1942. He also designed two posters for the railroad: "A notable Deco-styled poster selling Washington, D.C. . . . [that] featured the capital's two latest improvements - the new Supreme Court Building [opened in 1935] and [the railroad's] latest streamlined electric locomotive" (Zega p. 109). The engine is Raymond Loewy's industrial design marvel, the GG-1 electric locomotive.

Teller p. 20, Zega 139, Affiches Chemins de Fer p. 99.
40½x25 inches, 102¾x63½ cm. O. Co., Clifton, N.J.
