Gustav Klutsus 1895-1944 The USSR Is The Avant Garde Of The World Proletariat. 1931 56.75 x 39.75 inches. Born in Latvia, Klutsis studied at the influential Svomas/Vchutemas art school under Malevitchand Pevsner 1918-1922 and then went on to become a founding member of "October," a group of artists dedicated to serving the needs of the proletariat all over the-Ussr. Klutsis became the most prolific virtuoso of the art of photomontage, designing emblematic posters to inspire the Communist cause throughout the twenties and thirties. Thisposter is one of his most famous, showing a globe with a giant Soviet worker facing the rest of the world. An extremely powerful poster withsophisticated typography and layout.
