Engraving, 1945. 237x160 mm; 9 3/8x6 3/8 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 1/20 in pencil, lower margin. A very good, dark impression.

Gustave Singier (1909-1984) was a Belgian artist who worked in Paris, and was a member of the Salon de Mai group of French abstract artists who formed in 1941 in opposition to the Nazi occupation and their denouncment of degenerate art.

Hayter used the same title as this work for his 1953 color engraving (see lot 461).
