Stated first edition, first printing, octavo; with Harper code "I-C" on copyright; signed and inscribed by Brooks, "sincerely" in October 1989 in black ink on the half-title; bound in publisher's green cloth-backed boards, spine lettered in russet; with the unclipped illustrated dust jacket (light edge wear and chips, toning, spots to lower panel of jacket; few tiny stains to contents; soiling and rubbing at board edges, minor fraying to endcaps, lightly bumped, faint offsetting to endpapers); 7 ½ x 4 7/8 in. 

[Together with] In the Mecca. New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, 1968. First edition, first printing; bound in full red cloth stamped in black, ochre endpapers; with the publisher's pictorial dust jacket (price clipped, lightly rubbed, tiny stain at verso); 8 x 5 1/2 in.

Maud Martha is the only prose work written by Pulitzer Prize-winning Poet Laureate, Gwendolyn Brooks, who received praise and encouragement from Harlem Renaissance giants Langston Hughes, James Weldon Johnson, and Richard Wright early on in her career.
