    Other notes:
Gyorgy Kepes' career was multifaceted. A photographer, painter, printmaker, writer, art theorist, and teacher scratches the surface of his legacy in the artworld.

In his birth nation of Hungary he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. His involvement with a collective of artists associated with the avant-garde publication, Journal Munka opened his eyes and imagination to experimentation. In 1930, Kepes moved to Berlin, accepting a position as assistant to his fellow countryman, Laslo Moholy-Nagy. He remained with Moholy-Nagy when he left Germany in 1937 to establish the New Bauhaus school in Chicago, later re-named the Institute of Design. in 1947 Kepes accepted an invitation to create a program at Massachusetts Instutute of Technology in visual design, what would become the Center for Advanced Visual Studies. He directed the Center until 1972.
