HANS RICHTER (1888-1976) ABENDE FUR NEUE LITTERATUR. Circa 1916.

34 1/2x28 inches.
Condition B+: horizontal fold; minor foxing in margins and image. Japan.
After studying in Weimar and Berlin, Richter was active within several different avant-garde groups, such as Sturm, Dada and The November Group. He also was involved in some early, experimental movies made in the Dadaist and Suprematist style. This unrecorded poster, done in a strong, minimalistic and expressionistic style, with wildly hand-written text, was designed for an evening of new literature at Hans Goltz's gallery. In fact, it is a similarly designed poster, for a joint exhibition of work by Richter and Erich Heckel at this same gallery in 1916, that gives us a clue to the date of this poster.
