- Notes: first edition. "Hanway (1712-1785) was a partner in the house of Dingley, a merchant in St. Petersburg who was engaged in trade with Persia, hence the author's journeys. One of the earliest accounts of the Caspian by a European. There were no accurate maps of the Caspian Sea until about the time of Hanway and his voyages on the Caspian were helpful in the later drawings of that sea"--Ghani, page 167. Kress 5268.
