(HARLEM RIVER) An Act to enable John B. Coles to raise a dam across Haerlem River and to amend an act entitled "An act for building a Bridge across Haerlem River." [New York], circa 1790. Broadside, approximately 345x210 mm; dampstained, chipped in top right corner andlower margin (not affecting text), separation along vertical centerfold repaired with linen tape but with some loss, small thin with some loss of text. SOLD AS IS. E600/900 Interesting ephemeral piece of New Yorkiana, not listed in Evans. The original act which this one amends gave Lewis Morris the right to build a bridge from theBronx to Manhattan over the Harlem River. Morris (1726-98), was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, half-brother of Gouvernor Morris, the third and last lord of the manor of Morrisania. In 1790, Lewis proposed Morrisania as a possible site for the federal capital.
