HEMINGWAY, ERNEST. Autograph Letter Signed, to Mrs. Woodford, apologizing for not sending a book [For Whom the Bell Tolls?] and writing that he has ordered one to be sent from Hong Kong. 1 1/2 pages, 2 8vo sheets, Strand Hotel, Rangoon stationery; usual folds. Rangoon, circa 1941

Notes: "Someone pinched that book I promised you and I have tried all over town to get one with no success. Have ordered one sent to you from Hong Kong and you should have it by next CNAC plane. I hope we will see you and your husband again sometime, somewhere. Good luck to you both."
Hemingway traveled to Hong Kong and other parts in the Far East January-April 1941. The book he refers to is likely For Whom the Bell Tolls, as it was published the year prior to this letter.
